We're now making more compost so
some of the beds are being turned from woodchip mulch to composted. Woodchips
are OK but it's hard not to mix them into the soil when planting and harvesting
(especially crops like parsnips and leeks). Woodchips also need extra
fertiliser compared to compost which doesn't need any.
Garlic harvest. These are third
generation self saved garlic, originally from supermarket bulbs.

Actively Aerated Compost Tea
Keep the mixture oxygenated for 24 hours and dilute with more rainwater to apply.
It would be difficult to apply too much compost tea.

Start of the new season
After losing direct sown peas to mice last year we're going back to starting them off in guttering. Broad beans are in modules for an earlier crop and to prevent slug damage.
